The Taxi Subsidy Scheme subsidises taxi travel—half of the total fare, up to a maximum of $30 per trip—for people with severe disabilities.
Taxi Subsidy Scheme membership lasts for a maximum of 5 years. To extend your membership, you must reapply before the expiry date.
Eligibility
To be eligible you must be a permanent resident of Queensland and able to fully meet at least 1 of the 6 eligibility criteria listed below:
- Physical disability requiring dependence on a wheelchair for all mobility outside the home.
- Severe ambulatory problem that cannot functionally be improved and restricts walking to an extremely limited distance.
- Total loss of vision or severe permanent visual impairment (both eyes).
- Severe and uncontrollable epilepsy.
- Intellectual impairment or dementia resulting in the need to be accompanied by another person at all times for travel on public transport.
- Severe emotional and/or behaviour disorders with a level of disorganisation resulting in the need to be accompanied by another person at all times for travel on public transport.
Disability Parking Permits
The Australian Disability Parking Scheme helps eligible people park nearer to their destination.
Eligibility
You may be able to apply for an Australian permit if you are a Queensland resident and 1 of the following applies to you:
- unable to walk and always require the use of a wheelchair
- ability to walk is severely restricted by a permanent medical condition or ability to walk is severely restricted by a temporary medical condition or disability that you will have for 6 months or more as certified by your doctor or occupational therapist.
Applicants with intellectual, psychiatric, cognitive or sensory impairment alone do not meet the eligibility criteria unless the applicant also has a mobility impairment that impacts on their ability to walk.
