The Department of Education offers a nursing service to Queensland state schools. Education Queensland Registered Nurses work in partnership with school staff to safely manage the health needs of students with a verified disability or specialised health need.

This includes, but is not limited to, students with asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes and epilepsy. It also involves training for EQ staff to perform procedures, such as PEG feeding, Blood Glucose testing, urinary catheterisation, management of stomas etc.

I also work with staff to help manage students with health needs by providing health and emergency plans for school, liaising with other health professionals, providing advice and support to ensure best practice and independence are high priorities.

Our registered nurse based at Bundaberg Special School is Heather Egan. If you would like more information on the nursing service or to contact Heather please contact the school office on (07) 4155 5222.
